Prof. Portinaro professor at the Orthopedic and Traumatology Clinic of the University of Milan, where the Operative Unit of Pediatric Orthopedics and Neuro-Orthopedics stands out for having applied engineering technology and molecular biology to clinical practice since 2003.
These fields of scientific research aim at improving the understanding of the problems of pediatric patients with neuromotor disabilities in order to optimize the theoretical and practical choice for treatment.
The applied basic sciences have also made it possible to identify the best moment for performing some types of high-impact surgery. That allowed to reduce the chance of severe worsening due to the patient’s growth or to the failure of surgery performed too late.
The clinical and basic research activity is carried out within Humanitas in collaboration with Italian and foreign university centers.
The main objective of the polycentric research is indeed the convergence of different expertise. This allows the closest integration between scientific research activities and assistance and health care activities.
